Guadalajara is considered America’s capital of culture, since it has numerous museums where you may admire from history and national roots to the most recent expressions of contemporary art.

Wax Museum. Located in Av. Morelos s/n. Exhibits over 150 wax statues of history, politics, show business and public figures. Open every day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

City Museum. Located in Calzada Independencia No. 684, between Mariano Bárcenas and Contreras Medellín. It has eight exhibition rooms, where the city’s historical, urban, ethnical and artistic development is explained. Open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.


José Clemente Orozco Workshop-Museum. Located in Av. Vallarta s/n. The property where this famous painter lived is now used to exhibit some of its personal belongings and paintings, as well as pictures of its murals. Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.




José Parrés Arias Archeology Museum of Western Mexico. Located in Calzada Independencia Sur s/n, Colonia Parque Agua Azul. Offers a general view of the Prehispanic history of the cultures of Western Mexico, especially highlighting the Colima hairless dogs. Open every day of the week, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.



 


Museo Regional de Occidente. Located in calle Liceo No. 60, between Hidalgo and Independencia. Considered one of the buildings with greatest historic and architecture value in the center of the city. Has an exhibition hall that embraces all the pre-hispanic cultures that inhabited in the Western area of Mexico. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 pm. And Sundays from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 pm.





Arts Museum University of Guadalajara. Located in Calle Juárez No. 975. Situated in the Rectory building of the university, hosts temporary exhibitions of diverse branches of visual arts. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m to 8:00 pm. and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm..



 


Museo del Periodismo y las Artes Gráficas. Located in Ave Alcalde No. 255, Downtown. Has two exhibit halls which displays objects, machines and tools related to the printing and graphic arts. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m to 3:00 pm.
